Hi TherE

winter snowshoeing elopement at Mount Hood Oregon

Sierra and Chaz wanted something laid-back, wild, and 100% them. So they traded fancy venues for snowshoes, powdery trails, and one epic view of Mt. Hood. Their snowshoe elopement at White River Sno‑Park was full of quiet moments, big laughs, and a whole lot of love. Bundled up in layers and love, Sierra and Chaz strapped on snowshoes and wandered into a winter wonderland. The trail opened up to wide, snowy fields with Mt. Hood trying to peak out in the background. Even with the chill in the air, these two brought all the warmth.

They shared their first look tucked among the trees with snow falling gently around them. You could feel the nerves melt away as soon as they saw each other—just pure joy and that giddy excitement of “this is really happening.” Afterwards, they found a quiet clearing surrounded by tall evergreens and untouched snow. With no one else around, they spoke their vows to each other under the snowy sky. It was simple, beautiful, and incredibly emotional.

After saying “I do,” Sierra and Chaz celebrated with hot cocoa, playful snowball fights, and slow walks hand-in-hand as the sun dipped behind the trees. They even built a snowman in their wedding clothes—because why not?

Thinking of planning your own winter elopement here?

Here are a few tips from Sierra and Chaz’s day:

  • Go on a weekday – You’ll have way more privacy and space to roam.
  • Gear Up – Snowshoes are a must. Pack down jackets, waterproof layers, thermal underwear, hand‑warmers, and fun accessories like cozy beanies, gloves, and scarves.
  • Timing Matters – If it’s snowing, go for midday or early afternoon light for the best photos and warmth. Depending on the weather we may or may not be able to see Mount Hood on your elopement day but if its looking clear there’s nothing better than golden hour in the snowy mountains!
  • Keep it small & simple – These Sno‑Parks welcome intimate ceremonies. No need for permits unless you’re bringing lots of guests or setting up heavy decor.
  • Add cozy touches – Bring hot cocoa, a blanket, maybe a thermos of cider or hot cocoa. It not only warms you but offers fun, candid photo ops.
  • Stay nearby – Rent a cabin or Airbnb close to Government Camp or stay at the iconic Timberline Lodge! It makes for relaxed getting‑ready prep and a smooth transition between ceremony and celebration.
