Sarah and Lyle’s day was pure magic from start to finish. They chose one of the most iconic spots in Olympic National Park for their Hurricane Ridge elopement — and it gave them those giant mountain vibes they dreamed of. Madison Falls for their First Look
Their day began with a quiet first look at Madison Falls. It’s an easy, short stroll from the parking area, and the waterfall makes a soft, natural backdrop that’s perfect for those first, emotional moments together. The greenery and water created such a peaceful start to their wedding day — and set the tone for everything that followed.

Ceremony at Hurricane Ridge
After their first look, we headed up to Hurricane Ridge for sunset. In July, the ridge is bursting with color and views — wildflowers are out, the mountains stretch for miles, and those golden hour skies make every moment glow. Summer is one of the best times to plan an Olympic National Park elopement if you want easy road access and warmer weather. Just know that July is also peak season for visitors, so timing your arrival for later afternoon or early evening helps avoid crowds.
Hurricane Ridge offers big mountain backdrops with little hiking if you don’t want it. You can drive right up and find a gorgeous vista without a long walk, but there are also short trails like Hurricane Hill if you want a bit more adventure or privacy. It’s a great choice for couples who want dramatic scenery without spending hours on the trail.
At sunset, the light softened and wrapped around the peaks. Sarah and Lyle’s portraits here are some of my favorites — that warm glow, the sweeping mountain range behind them, and that quiet, golden stillness right as the sun dipped gave them images that truly match the feeling of their day.

Helpful Tips for Eloping in Olympic National Park In July
Pick the right time of day. July brings long daylight hours, but spots like Hurricane Ridge can get busy midday. Plan your key moments around sunrise or sunset for better light and fewer crowds.
Be ready for changing weather. Summer days are mostly dry and clear, but mountain weather can shift fast. Layers are your best friend — even warm July days can feel cool up high.
Permits matter. If you’re planning an elopement with vendors or guests, you’ll need a special use permit from the National Park Service well in advance. And don’t forget your Washington State marriage license — it has its own waiting period and rules.
Beat the crowds. July is busy in Olympic National Park, especially at popular spots like Hurricane Ridge and Madison Falls. Arrive early or plan your ceremony later in the afternoon to help skip peak parking and traffic.
