Hiking Elopement at Mount Rainier’s Skyline Trail

Raquel and Jacob are the kind of couple who remind you that love doesn’t have to be extravagant to be extraordinary. They knew a traditional wedding—with all the costs, events, and expectations—just wasn’t their vibe. Instead, they dreamed of something that felt more them: quiet, meaningful, and wrapped up in the beauty of the outdoors. They found themselves at Mount Rainier’s Skyline Trail, with endless alpine views and crisp mountain air. Their elopement was a whole adventure—a day that reflected their love for each other, their family, and a shared passion for exploration. There’s something so freeing about watching a couple toss aside the usual wedding rules and make their own, and Raquel and Jacob did just that with so much joy and intention.

The Day Unfolds

The morning started with that cozy rain that makes you want to curl up with a good book—or, in Raquel and Jacob’s case, lace up your boots for an epic adventure. Jacob and Raquel were gearing up for the climb, their excitement observable despite the drizzle outside. Before we headed out, Jacob shared a sweet moment with his dad and best man, sipping Japanese whiskey and sharing a few laughs—a little liquid courage, perhaps? Raquel and Jacob had their sweet first look, full of smiles. With boots tied, backpacks slung on, and the hope that the clouds would lift once we hit the trail, we set off toward the mountain, ready for whatever the day might bring.

Hiking Up to the Mount Rainier Ceremony Location

Reaching the ceremony spot was no small feat—steep switchbacks and a misty fog accompanied us. Raquel and Jacob exchanged their vows in an intimate moment, with views of towering peaks wrapped in the clouds. And just as they shared their first kiss, Mount Rainier peeked out from behind the mist for a brief but breathtaking moment. It was one of those “you couldn’t plan this” instances. Afterward, they honored Jacob’s Japanese heritage with a sake toast. I certainly wasn’t upset that the fog was lingering—but later, as we hiked higher, we found ourselves above the clouds, looking out over an incredible inversion.

Post-Ceremony Adventuring Up Skyline Trail

After their beautiful ceremony, we kept the adventure going, hiking further up Skyline Trail in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the mountain—and let me tell you, patience paid off. As we climbed above the clouds, the sky opened to reveal Mount Rainier’s glory and a stunning rainbow. Their two friends stuck it out with us while the rest of the family headed back to the Airbnb to unwind. Raquel and Jacob were so easygoing, their love for hiking and the outdoors radiating. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions—it was a day where I felt lucky to be alive, surrounded by beauty and good company.

Tips for Your Hiking Elopement

Planning a hiking elopement is such an exciting adventure, but it takes some preparation. Choose a trail that fits your vibe and comfort level. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just dipping your toes into the outdoorsy life, there’s a trail for everyone, especially in the PNW. Look for one with scenery you love, like wildflowers, waterfalls, or epic mountain views, but make sure it matches your hiking abilities.

Next, pack smart! Essentials like sturdy shoes, layers for unpredictable weather, water, snacks, and a headlamp (just in case) are key. And don’t forget the small but essential things like tissues or a little towel—it’s surprising how handy they can be! Lastly, hire a photographer who knows their way around the trails and understands the flow of a hiking elopement. They will capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments and know how to keep things running smoothly so you can focus on soaking it all in. The right prep makes all the difference for a stress-free, mystical day in nature.
